A key player in the development of the highly regarded Belleville Bulldogs Rugby Club has died.
Belleville native Curtis Crawford died Saturday in Ottawa after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 66.
Crawford joined the Bulldogs in their second year as a club in 1977.
Involved in the game for six decades, Crawford later was named a Life Member, an honour that was also accorded him by the Bytown Blues, the club he joined in Ottawa after moving there in the late 1980s.
Crawford played rep box lacrosse for Belleville teams and varsity men’s OCAA basketball at Sheridan College in Oakville. He went on to enjoy a successful career in animation and film-making.
Details regarding a celebration of life to be held in Belleville are yet to be announced.
