The County is one of many municipalities that has declared a climate emergency.
In addition to the Trash Bash, Large Item Swap and Composter Giveaway held during the days leading up to Earth Day, the County is hosting several presentations and events over the next couple of weeks with Mother Earth in mind.
”Recently Prince Edward County adopted a by-law that allows for the naturalization of lawns and as part of that we’re performing some education pieces around that in conjunction again with the County Garden Club. So it’s just gonna give you a bunch of different options as to what can be done to naturalize your yard.”
“We’re inviting Joyce Hostyn from Little Forests Kingston to come and speak about the Miyawaki Method and basically it’s planting little forests or very densely packed forests that try to out-compete each other so they grow quite rapidly.”
Other events include the Repair Cafe on April 27 where volunteers will repair items like clothing, electronics and small appliances to prevent them from going to the landfill.
May 4 is the annual tree giveaway, as well as the County’s second annual Environmental Expo, featuring information about climate adaptation, mitigation and environmental protection.
