Supporting a charity, and helping the community and the environment, Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings now has two ReStore locations serving the region.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday at their new location at 266 Dundas Street East in Trenton.
It joins the Belleville location on Bell Boulevard.
Habitat Executive Director Hazzem Koudsi says proceeds from the ReStore fund Habitat’s operations meaning most monetary donations received from the community are directed towards their home builds.
Habitat has multiple builds coming up this year, including in Marmora and Picton as well as work beginning on their major multi-year condominium project on the site of the former police station in Belleville.
Both the Belleville and Quinte West locations sell new and gently used items.
Donations of gently used items are accepted at both locations.
ReStores also sell new clothing and home décor which comes through corporate donations and surpluses in inventory.
ReStore General Manager Cindy Windsor says with the success at the Belleville location, they’ve seen a need to expand and are fortunate to have found such a great space in Trenton, offering 8,000 sq. ft. of retail space to their customers.
Koudsi says the new store has been open for a couple of weeks and they’ve surpassed expectations in sales, suggesting a need in the community.
He adds part of the reason they wanted to add a location in Quinte West was to serve the area’s military population.
While supporting Habitat for Humanity, customers also save money, shopping tax free with prices 30% to 75% off retail prices.
In addition, purchasing items from the ReStore diverts landfill through recycling donated items.
The new Trenton ReStore is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
