Ontario has announced it will be investing $5 million to help prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant that helps communities and organizations purchase critical supplies, equipment and deliver training and services.
There are 113 recipients across the province that will be receiving money.
Here are the recipients in the Quinte and surrounding region that will be receiving funding, how much funding they are receiving, and what the funding will be used for:
County of Lennox & Addington |
$49,100 |
Augment amateur radio capacity by upgrading the emergency management radio network, purchasing satellite phones, portable generators and trailer equipment. Funding will also be used to train volunteers on communication infrastructure. |
Kawartha Region Conservation Authority |
$35,584 |
Construct and install an all-season fully automated weather station at their Flood Operation Centre that collects daily data and provides flood forecasting and warning services. Staff training will also be provided. |
Lower Trent Region Conservation Authority |
$49,433 |
Replace eight precipitation gauges across the Lower Trent Conservation watershed to increase year-round coverage of precipitation data, and install three additional year-round, real-time data precipitation stations in currently unmonitored areas. |
The Corporation of the Municipality of Port Hope |
$45,000 |
Install a generator at their new emergency operations centre to provide heat, lighting, communications and IT support to staff and emergency shelter to rural residents. |
Township of Tyendinaga |
$50,000 |
Assist the township in responding to Highway 401 closures by purchasing an enclosed cargo trailer equipped with traffic cones, barricades, flashing lights, delineators and temporary signs, high visibility clothing, hard hats, shovels, chainsaws, a spill recovery kit and other supplies, along with two emergency signage trailers to indicate road closures. |
