The Belleville Senators defeated the Rochester Americans 6-3 on Friday night.
Zack Ostapchuk, Nikolas Matinpalo, Nikolas Matinpalo, Josh Currie, Tyler Kleven, and Wyatt Bongiovanni scored for the Senators.
The Senators opened scoring with two unanswered first period goals. During the second, the Americans came back with two goals of their own, taking a tied game into the final frame. In the third period, the Senators went on a rampage, racking up three goals before the Americans could grab their third and final of the night. A final Senators goal extended their lead with only two seconds left on the clock.
Belleville Sens Head Coach Dave Bell said a strong performance by their goaltender was critical for the win.
“I don’t think we let the score trick us, Mads Sogaard was the difference in the hockey game. He was outstanding to start the game, with two huge saves, and then the game got away from us in the second and he held us in there. Without him, that’s a different hockey game, but we’ll take the win, for sure.”
This is the Senators’ fifth win in a row, and tightens their grip on the final AHL north division playoff spot.
The Senators are back in action on Sunday in a rematch against the Rochester Americans.
