Through the first ten periods of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s East final, the Trenton Golden Hawks had completely shut down OJHL scoring leader Trevor Hoskin.
Not so much in period 11.
The Belleville native scored his first goal and point of the series at 7:48 of the second overtime to give the Cobourg Cougars a 3-2 victory over Trenton and life in the series, not to mention home ice in Game 4 in Cobourg tonight (Wed).
Caleb Van de Ven and Barret Joynt scored for Trenton.
Ben Bonisteel stopped 47 shots.
That snapped the Golden Hawks’ 10-game post-season winning streak.
Game 5 will be in Trenton Friday night.
In the West final, the Collingwood Blues routed the Leamington Flyers 6-2 to open a 3-0 lead in that series.
The winners of these series meet in the OJHL championship round for the Buckland Cup and a berth in the Centennial Cup national championships.
