Help divert items from the landfill and find new-to-you treasures during the City of Belleville’s and City of Quinte West’s annual spring curbside Giveaway Day.
On Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. in Quinte West and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Belleville, residents can place unwanted household items in good condition at curbside for others to take.
Residents can place their giveaway items at the curb or road in front of their homes and clearly label them with stickers or signs to indicate they are free. Keep items that are not part of Giveaway Day separate from these items. Uncollected items should be removed from the curb at the end of the day to avoid fines from by-law enforcement.
Appropriate items to give away are DVDs, books, furniture, small appliances, kitchen items and construction materials, such as hardware, lumber and drywall. Health Canada’s Consumer Product Safety Directorate advises against giving away cribs, car seats, strollers, bath seats and playpens to avoid unsafe use.
Quinte West’s spring Giveaway Day and Quinte Trash Bash, both scheduled for April 20, provide opportunities to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.
“Giveaway Day is the perfect opportunity to create eco-friendly habits at home as we kickstart our spring cleaning,” said Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “When we reduce, reuse and recycle unwanted items, we not only keep waste out of the landfill, but also contribute to a healthier, greener planet.”
The rain date for this year’s spring Giveaway Day is Sunday, April 21, 2024. For more information, visit quintewest.ca/GiveawayDay.
