The Warden of Hastings County and mayor of Stirling-Rawdon is pleased with the amount of investment the provincial government says it will make in the province’s health care system.
However, Bob Mullin is not optimistic that much help will be coming to smaller municipalities for infrastructure and affordable housing projects.
Mullin says if past performance is any indication, the vast majority of financial help on those items will go to bigger communities.
“The municipal tax system was created at Confederation and hasn’t been updated since and in the meantime a lot of our (municipal) responsibilities are new and underfunded and we just don’t have the resources.”
As far as healthcare is concerned, $2 billion over three years will be invested in improving home care and community care along with building a new medical school and increasing the number of nursing students and practising nurses.
