Belleville police responded to 72 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on March 26, 2024 to 5 a.m. on March 27, 2024.
Domestic Assault
On March 26, 2024 at 11 a.m., Belleville police received a call to the downtown core regarding a 28-year-old female that had been physically assaulted. The female suffered minor physical injuries and was transported to BGH by EMS. During the investigation, police learned that the victim had been assaulted by her 35-year-old male partner of no fixed address. Police conducted a search of the area for the suspect, however, were unable to locate him. At 4:57 p.m. the male suspect attended the Belleville Police Service and turned himself in. He was arrested and charged with domestic assault and held for a bail hearing.

Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed
On March 26, 2024 at 12:05 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Service’s Traffic Unit were monitoring the speed of traffic on Dundas Street East when they stopped two vehicles travelling in excess of the posted speed limit. One vehicle was travelling at 132km/h in a posted 60km/h zone. The driver was an 18-year-old female. The second vehicle was travelling at 129km/h in the same posted 60km/h zone. The driver of the second vehicle was an 18-year-old male. Both drivers were charged with stunt driving and had their driver’s licence suspended for 30 days. Both vehicles were impounded for 14 days and the drivers were issued a summons for a traffic court day in May.
