The visiting Laval Rocket slipped past the Belleville Senators 3-2 in overtime at CAA Arena on Friday night.
Wyatt Bongiovanni and Tarun Fizer scored for the Senators.
The two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless first period, with neither team making it past the goalkeepers until early in the second. With a goal just minutes into the second frame, the teams settled back into a deadlock with neither team scoring again until the third. During the third period, the Senators extended their lead with another goal before the Rocket came back with a vengeance to grab two goals, tie the game, and take the teams to overtime where they eventually picked up the game-winning goal.
Belleville Sens Head Coach Dave Bell blamed poor puck management for the loss, and said the team would have to work harder to win their upcoming rematch.
“There’s a lot of things in that game. Obviously, you get three early power plays and get nothing out of it that’s tough, but I thought we recovered from that. We get a 2-0 lead and that should be enough this time of year to win a game,” said Coach Bell. “We only gave up 19 shots in three periods plus overtime, so that’s a positive. There were moments that we liked, but certainly moments that we need to fix.”
The Sens are back in action on Saturday night, hosting the Rocket for back-to-back games. The puck drops at 7.
