Quinte West Council has decided to renew a contract for animal control services.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, it was decided to renew the city’s existing contract with Pierce Animal Control Services.
Pierce Animal Control Services was the only bidder for the contract. The contract covers 2024 and 2025 with an option to extend again for another three years. The cost for 2024 is $190,000 while 2025 was billed at $215,000.
A report by municipal staff found that while the sole bidding company did increase its rates for the upcoming contract, it would cost even more for the municipality to build a similar service in-house, with a predicted cost of $290,000 for a basic service, below what is currently offered in the contract.
Council moved to renew the contract, and approved the additional funds to pay for it.
