Belleville police responded to 80 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on February 21, 2024 to 5 a.m. on February 22, 2024.
Impaired Driving
On February 21. 2024 at 3:15 p.m., Belleville police began receiving calls from motorists regarding a silver hatchback on Cannifton Road driving on the wrong side of the road. The hatchback was observed, now with a flat tire, by other motorists hitting curbs and failing to obey stop signs in the east end of the city. The hatchback then collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Bridge Street East and Herchimer Avenue before leaving the scene of the accident. Police located and stopped the vehicle at Dundas Street and Herchimer Avenue. The driver demonstrated signs of impairment and was arrested. The driver was transported to the Belleville Police Service where the investigation continued. As a result of the investigation, Demerise Gladue, 20 years old of Belleville, was charged with impaired driving, operation with over 80mg and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was released on an undertaking with a court date in March. There were no reported injuries resulting from the motor vehicle collision.
Arrested on Warrants
On February 21, 2024 at 10 a.m., Belleville police officers on foot patrol in the downtown core observed a male who they believed was currently wanted on outstanding warrants. The officers confirmed the arrest warrants were in effect. As a result, officers arrested Nicholas Semple, 28 years old of Belleville on the outstanding warrants for break and enter and breach of probation. Semple was later released on an undertaking with a court date in March.
