Tyendinaga Township council will be taking a first look at a 2024 budget which shows a large tax increase at a special meeting Wednesday.
Township staff’s budget proposal features a 19.74 per cent residential tax increase.
If approved as is, that increase would mean a homeowner with a house worth $200,000 would see taxes increase from about $2,500 to around $3,000 a year.
Spending on capital projects has gone up significantly in this year’s budget proposal, increasing around $1.3 million to a total of over $3.1 million.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Tweed recently passed a 2024 budget with a 17.8 per cent tax increase, while it’s expected Stirling-Rawdon’s taxes will go up by nine to 15 per cent.
However, in Centre Hastings the increase was less dramatic at 5.3 per cent.
