Three people are face drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop on Highway 401 for speeding.
Just before noon on Valentine’s Day, an officer was conducting traffic patrol on the 401 in Tyendinaga Township when they spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
Radar was activated and the officer clocked the vehicle going 140km/hr.
The vehicle was stopped on 401 west between Highway 49 and Deseronto Road without incident.
There was a male driver, along with a male passenger in the front of the vehicle and a female passenger in the back.
During police’s interaction, drugs were seen in the vehicle.
Everyone in the vehicle was placed under arrest and the vehicle was searched.
As a result of the search, police located the following:
- 665 Methamphetamine pills
- 60 Amphetamine pills
- 15g of cocaine
- 1/2g of crack cocaine
- 69 fentanyl pills
- 14g crystal meth
- 21 oxycodone pills
- Various other prescription pills
Forty-five-year-old Benoit Thuot from Saint-Jerome, Quebec was charged with the following:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two c ounts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
- Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
- Speeding
- Drive while under suspension
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Remon from Dorval, Quebec was charged with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
- Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
- Possession of break in instruments
- Failure to comply with release order – two counts
Twenty-two-year-old Doryane Benoit-Paul of Saint-Jerome, Quebec was charged with the following:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine – two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid -two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – five counts
- Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
- Obstruct peace officer
- Failure to comply with release order
All accused were held for a bail hearing and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.
