A controversial issue that’s been debated three times since 1998 will be up for discussion again Thursday at a meeting of Prince Edward County’s Committee of the Whole.
That issue is the size of council and the ward system.
After vigorous debate in March of last year council voted eight to five to have staff come up with terms of reference for a governance review.
Council currently has 13 councillors and one mayor representing nine wards as a result of a restructuring in 2015.
When The County was amalgamated in 1998 there were 15 councillors and one mayor.
Terms of reference for a governance review will be presented to the committee Thursday afternoon and if accepted a public consultation process would begin with changes to council size and ward configuration in place for the 2026 election.
A review is estimated to cost $75,000 plus staff time.
The Committee of the Whole meeting begins at 1 p.m. at Shire Hall.
