After months of construction and anticipation, Quinte Health North Hastings Hospital (NHH) is now equipped with its own state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) scanner. This marks a celebratory milestone for the community and the dedicated Quinte Health team, including the North Hastings Fund Development Committee and its generous donors.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Stacey Daub, Quinte Health President and CEO, said, “We are thrilled the North Hastings community will now have enhanced access to care close to home. This state-of-the-art technology is a game-changer, eliminating the need for North Hastings residents to travel to other centres for CT scans and will aid in prompt diagnoses and treatments. I take tremendous pride in this accomplishment and extend my heartfelt gratitude to the community donors championed by the North Hastings Fund Development Committee. This achievement would not have been possible without your unwavering support.”
Previously, NHH patients requiring a CT scan as part of their diagnosis were routinely transferred to other hospitals, often Belleville General Hospital. This advancement promises to streamline diagnosis and treatment processes, elevating the overall standard of care.
Kim Bishop, North Hastings Fund Development Committee Chair, said, “What an exciting time in health care for North Hastings. The community was asked to raise an unprecedented amount of money to transform our access to first-rate diagnostic testing. And they did it. I am particularly proud of the Back the Cat campaign and honoured to lead this team of volunteers and donors in the quest to continue to have the best equipped rural hospital in Ontario.”
A CT scan is a medical imaging technique used to obtain detailed internal images of the body. It is frequently used to diagnose an injury and determine medical treatment, often in emergencies.
“The CT Scanner is not just a machine; it is a promise of timely and accurate diagnoses, reduced travel burdens for patients, and an enhanced capability for our healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible,” said Stacey. “It is a beacon of hope for those who may find themselves in need, reinforcing the idea that no matter where you are, healthcare excellence should be within reach.
“This success is a testament to what can be accomplished when individuals and organizations come together for a shared cause. It is a reminder that the well-being of our community is a collective responsibility, and each act of kindness and support contributes to the greater good.”
Already in operation at NHH, the new CT scanner conducted its first-ever scan on January 29, with the CT scanner expected to be fully operational 24/7 in March 2024.
