The Belleville Senators edged the Syracuse Crunch 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night.
Josh Currie, Lassi Thomson, and Angus Crookshank scored for the senators.
Both teams were deadlocked in the action-packed first period, racking up two goals each. The stalemate continued into the second where neither team managed to add to their score, until the third period when the Senators briefly pulled ahead only for the Crunch to tie the game again, late in the frame, and send the teams to overtime.
During overtime, the Sens managed to find the back of the net and bring home the win.
Belleville Senators Head Coach Dave Bell said that while this was a big win, the team would have to work hard after the all-star break to climb the standings.
“It’s a huge win. Obviously, we need the points with other teams in the division winning. But that’s a first place team we were able to take four points from this weekend, so that’s big.”
The Senators will return after the all-star break to host the Utica Comets at CAA Arena.
