Bancroft’s warming centre will open Friday night at its new location on Cleak Street.
A mobile medical unit has been retrofitted with bathrooms and four sleeping quarters and will serve as the town’s warming centre for the next two years until a more permanent solution can be found.
There was a delay in the opening of the new warming centre as there were challenges transporting the unit from Belleville to Bancroft.
However, it was moved and set up for use over the last couple of weeks and is now fully operational.
A temporary warming centre had been operating at the Bancroft Bible Chapel Lobby but it is now closed as the new unit is in operation.
The new warming centre at 6 Cleak Street will be open nightly from 9 p.m to 8 a.m.
Security staff will be on-site and provide support to anyone seeking shelter.
