The Batawa Ski Racing Club opened their 2024 season with stellar results as its U14, U16 and U19 teams all competed at Muskoka Ski Club in Huntsville, Ontario this past weekend.
On Saturday, Marlie Wright started the weekend off by winning the Gold medal in the U14 women’s Slalom race. Linnea Himburg-Larsen and Olivia Bush turned in great results finishing 6th and 10th. On the U14 men’s side, Jesse Nadolny decisively captured the Gold beating the 2nd place finisher by over eight seconds. It was a challenging course on a frigid morning with numerous disqualifications. Congratulations to all of our athletes who persevered.
On Sunday, the U16 and U19 teams continued the medal haul with Kaelin Hearn taking the Gold in the women’s U16 race followed by Rachel Brady with Bronze for a double podium. Julia Isbester was fourth and Maya Bianchi placed seventh. For the U16 men, Linden Forrest took a strong seventh place followed closely by Elio DeLuca in ninth. Anabella Cowling-Zeljkovic captured the Silver in the U19 women’s race with Alexia Bianchi finishing fourth and August Nadolny ninth. On the men’s side, in a very competitive race for the podium, Ian Isbester won the Silver and Spencer Dullard-Krizay the Bronze with Bodin MacDonald in seventh place. These teams battled through a very long race day that included issues with the race chair lift to start the day, delays, over 200 racers on the same tough course, before a partial course reset and prepping for their second run. Strong mental game displayed by all of our Batawa athletes!
Next weekend Batawa Ski Racing Club’s U12 team will be at Snow Valley in Barrie for their first race of the season which is a Panel Slalom, the U14s are at Glen Eden in Milton for a Slalom race and the U16 and U19 teams are at Caledon also for their next Slalom competition.
