Tyendinaga Township is going to get electric vehicle charging stations.
This week, council heard a presentation from Jule, an electrical charging company, based out of Toronto.
Mayor Claire Kennelly says they like what they heard.
“They’re made in Canada. There’s no cost to the township. What they do is they just basically lease that little section of land.”
He says the company monitors the station for service.
Kennelly adds, the stations provide a charge in 15 minutes, which will give a vehicle 20 to 80 per cent of battery capacity.
The township signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jule.
They will supply two to four, level three stations, which will be leased at municipal properties, which have not yet been confirmed.
“It takes about 10-15 minutes for them to charge. Say 20 to 80 per cent which would get them back on the road to where they got to go.”
The amount of money the municipality receives from the lease and when the stations are to be installed has not been released at this time.
Kennelly finished by saying they want to be proactive in the game, not playing catch-up years down the road.
