Belleville police responded to 69 calls for service over a 24-hour period from at 5 a.m. on January 16, 2024 to 5 a.m. on January 17, 2024.
Motor Vehicle Collision
On January 16, 2024 at 6:28 p.m., police were called to the intersection of North Front Street and College Street for a two-vehicle collision. Police attended and spoke to the involved parties and several witnesses. Both vehicles sustained significant damage but thankfully, there were no reported injuries. The investigation revealed that the at-fault driver failed to stop for a red light which resulted in the collision. The at-fault driver was charged with failing to stop at a red light and issued a Provincial Offence Notice under the Highway Traffic Act.
Stolen Vehicles
On January 16, 2024 at 7:15 a.m., a homeowner in the city’s east end woke up to discover that both of his motor vehicles which were parked in his driveway had been stolen overnight. Police attended and learned that sometime between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., unknown suspects had entered the victim’s residence and obtained the keys for the vehicles. The suspects then stole a Trek bike, various winter clothing and both vehicles.
Later in the day, the Belleville Police Service received notification that one of the vehicles had been recovered in the Durham Region. The investigation is continuing. The outstanding vehicle is a silver 2011 Honda CRV with a dent above the rear passenger window. The licence plate is CWKE 145.
