The Town of Marmora and Lake appears to be in a growing boom.
As we look to 2024 in the municipality, Mayor Jan O’Neil says things continue to roll.
“We have actually issued 114 building permits in 2023. We’ve opened more than 20 new businesses. Marmora really is moving forward and we’ve also had inquiries about a filming industry.”
On the budget side of the conversation, O’Neil believes like other municipalities there will be a tax increase, however, they are fighting to keep it in check.
Work on the Crowe Bridge will be a major focus, in which they are partnering with Peterborough County.
Mayor O’Neil added they want grant applications to go through for electric vehicle charging stations.
Two new plow trucks are set to arrive this year as well.
She says although health care is not a municipal responsibility, it became the most important topic in the most recent election.
“We formed a doctor recruitment committee, which I sit on. We were successful in recruiting a doctor to Marmora, Dr Sinton.”
