Trenton Golden Hawks Head Coach and General Manager Derek Smith has been suspended following an investigation by Hockey Canada’s independent third party investigator.
The suspension will last four weeks, concluding on January 30, 2024.
“We cannot comment on the nature of the investigation from the fall of 2023,” says ownership and management of the Trenton Golden Hawks in a statement.
“We disagree with the investigator’s findings and we will be appealing the decision.”
The statement goes on to say that the organization has full confidence in Smith and that he and the organization “have the player’s best interest at heart.”
“We will continue to support our players’ development on and off the ice,” the Golden Hawks say in their statement.
The OJHL says it also cannot comment on the nature of the investigation due to it being conducted by Hockey Canada’s Independent Third Party and that it would be providing no further comments.
Director of Operations Todd Reid and Associate Coach Tyler Longo will oversee team operations during the suspension.
