Belleville police responded to 65 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on January 3, 2024 to 5 a.m. on January 4, 2024.
Project Renewal
As a result of a drug trafficking investigation, on January 3, 2023 at a residence in the city’s east end, members of Project Renewal executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant which resulted in the arrest of and charges against two adults and the seizure of a small quantity of Fentanyl.
Thirty-six-year-old April Lawes-Bell of Belleville was charged with:
- Possession of a schedule one substance.
Lawes-Bell was released on an undertaking with a court date in February.
Thirty-three-year-old Wilfred Truscott of Belleville was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule one substance
- Fail to comply with a probation order.
Truscott was released on an undertaking with a court date in February.
Stolen Vehicle
On the 3rd of January at 3:55pm, Belleville Police received a call regarding an aggressive driver on Maitland Drive. Police began an investigation into the vehicle and learned that it had been reported stolen from Brantford on the 2nd of January. Police searched the area for the vehicle but were unable to locate it. Later in the evening, at 9:20pm, officers on patrol observed the stolen vehicle on North Front Street and followed it into a nearby parking lot. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 36-year-old Brantford man was arrested. The male was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, operating of vehicle while prohibited, two counts of breach of a release order, and failing to comply with probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
