The City of Quinte West’s Integrity Commissioner has recommended Mayor Jim Harrison issue a public apology to another council member and lose two weeks pay after an incident between the two after a council meeting on February 8, 2023.
Quinte News has obtained Integrity Commissioner Tony Fleming’s report after receiving a complaint about abusive behaviour toward another council member. Fleming found that Harrison broke council’s code of conduct on a couple of counts.
The Commissioner does not identify the complainant but Quinte News has confirmed that the person was Councillor Duncan Armstrong.
During a brief encounter after a meeting Mayor Harrison admits to calling Armstrong an “a__hole” more than once. Harrison also called to apologize to Armstrong afterward but the apology was not accepted.
Quinte West council is expected to decide on whether or not to discipline the mayor at its meeting this Wednesday.
