A Belleville resident is being recognized for her outstanding contributions to the St. John Ambulance Therapy dog Program.
During a ceremony on Thursday night, Norma Broadbear was recognized for 20 years of service to the program as a therapy dog handler, and for volunteering over 5000 hours during that time.
Norma, along with her faithful companion Kerry, completed over 1,000 visits as a Therapy Dog team. Kerry brought joy through her visits including through the PAWS Reading Program and as a Child Therapy Dog.
Norma was thanked for her efforts in providing training and mentoring numerous evaluators all over Ontario, and for her continuous efforts in elevating the Therapy Dog Program locally.
The St. John Ambulance therapy dog program is a volunteer program that brings comfort, joy and companionship to members of the community who are sick, lonely, reside in long-term care and mental health facilities, are in hospitals, schools and library settings.
