Belleville police responded to 70 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on December 6, 2023 to 5:00 a.m. on December 7, 2023.
RIDE is out and about
The Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere initiative by members of the Belleville Police Service is in full swing as the holiday season rolls into view.
Wednesday evening, a four-member team set up at various locations throughout the city and checked close to 300 vehicles.
There were no alcohol-related infractions, however one roadside alcohol test was administered and one Highway Traffic Act violation was issued.
Disturbance leads to arrest
A Trenton man was arrested on outstanding warrants after police were dispatched to an east end business early in the day, Wednesday.
The ordeal took place around 1:30 a.m. when officers were called to the location and determined the 39-year-old man who was the subject of the complaint was wanted by Quinte West OPP on several charges.
He was arrested and taken to the Quinte West OPP detachment on the strength of his warrants.
Break and enter suspect arrested
Belleville police arrested a 36-year-old man after he forced his way into a locked building in the city’s east end, Wednesday.
Officers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. to the address for a report of a break and enter. A male was observed breaking into a locked apartment building with a crowbar. Upon arrival they located the suspect and he was arrested without incident.
Charged with one count of forcible entry contrary to the Criminal Code is Bruce Cooney of no fixed address.
Cooney was released on conditions to appear in court on January 18, 2024.
