Hastings and Prince Edward Big Brothers-Big Sisters is marking School Mentoring Month.
Program co-ordinator Tracey Bush says a volunteer is matched with an elementary student. The mentor spends one hour a week with the child, during school hours. She says this is not such a big commitment as having to take the child out …it involves participating in activities or simply talking. Bush says all volunteers are screened, including a police check. The organization is looking for 50-volunteers for the 2009 – 10 academic year.
