Prince Edward County Council will be asked to support the Arrow Trail Project at its meeting Tuesday night.
Several parties are working together to establish a driving route linking Quinte West, Belleville and Prince Edward County commemorating the Avro Arrow and its connection to the region.
The CF-105 Avro Arrow Project is one of the most talked about projects in Canada’s aviation history.
It was seen as possibly the most advanced fighter jet in the world during its development but the project was suddenly abandoned in 1959 by the Conservative government led by John Diefenbaker.
In 2018, one of 12 test models of the Avro Arrow fired from the south shore of Prince Edward County into Lake Ontario in the 1950s, was brought to the surface.
The approximately 150 km proposed route would feature six main sites to explore, sharing stories behind the Avro Arrow and the Raise the Arrow campaign.
Two route options are being considered, along with a walking trail at Monarch Point Conservation
Reserve.
The Arrow Trail has a planned launch for next year in coordination with the RCAF’s 100th anniversary.
No financial support is being requested at this time as plans so far have been funded through the partners’ allocated budgets, grants, and sponsorship, however, the municipality is being asked that its staff work with the Communication Departments of the other municipalities in preparation for the trail’s launch in the spring or summer of 2024.
