The union representing No Frills grocery workers in Ontario says they are demanding similar gains to those received by workers at Metro as a strike deadline looms.
Unifor says almost 1,300 are ready to strike at 17 No Frills locations if an agreement can’t be worked by a Monday deadline.
This round of bargaining is the first with a major grocery chain for Unifor since it reached a deal with Metro this summer that brought more than 3,700 workers in the Toronto area significant wage gains.
A representative of the No Frills owner bargaining committee says they are at the table with the union with the goal of reaching an agreement.
Napanee and Cobourg No Frills stores are among the 17 involved in talks.
Stores in Belleville, Picton, Brighton and Campbellford would not be affected.
