The Trenton Golden Hawks have padded their lead atop the OJHL’s East Conference following a 6-0 rout of the Junior Canadiens in Toronto.
Taeo Arachuk gave Benjamin Bonisteel all the offence he would need with his fourth of the season at 5:03 of the first period. Lucas Lapalm added a pair to give him 11.
Owen Wilson (2nd) Matthew Lee (6th) and Barret Joynt (18th) rounded out the scoring for the Golden Hawks
Bonisteel turned away 33 shots for his fifth shutout of the season while lowering his goals against average to 1.75 while raising his save percentage to .938.
The Golden Hawks extend their winning streak to seven games and open a five-point lead on second place Markham.
Trenton hosts Eastern Canada Cup
While the Golden Hawks don’t play again until Friday when they host Stouffville there will be plenty of Junior A hockey at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens for the next three days (Nov. 13-15).
Trenton is the host for the Eastern Canada Cup series.
Twenty-three games will be played between all-star teams representing teams from the host OJHL, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Central Canada Hockey League the Quebec Junior Hockey League and the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
The event is used by Hockey Canada, CIS, NCAA, and NHL scouts to identify players for the World Junior A Challenge, post-secondary play, and professional hockey opportunities.
Games begin at 9 o’clock each morning.
Raiders rout Jets
The Napanee Raiders blew open a tight game with five goals in the third period to roast the Amherstview Jets 8-4. Blake Aylesworth scored the hat trick.
