The City of Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee approved a zoning by-law amendment that will allow for a dwelling unit at the back of the building located at 25 Campbell Street.
The mixed-use building has two commercial units on the ground floor, one dwelling unit in the basement, and two residential units on the second floor.
Under the amendment, a 55-square-metre dwelling unit in the rear portion of the ground floor would be permitted.
Councillor Chris Mallette expressed his support for the plan.
“In a time when we really have a crying need for almost any and every rental space we can, especially in the downtown area, I think more people downtown are going to help more commercial places down there. This is a good example of using space that otherwise may or may not be utilized. So I’m happy to support this,” Mallette said.
