Lennox and Addington OPP have announced they have seized 326 cases of beer after responding to a disabled vehicle call on Hwy 401.
On Wednesday, at approximately 2 o’clock in the afternoon, police responded to calls for a traffic hazard caused by a rental van with a blown tire on Hwy 401.
Police found rim marks on the westbound lanes of 401 and followed them until they caught up with the van, and initiated a traffic stop as the vehicle was still attempting to drive with the flat tire.
After locating and stopping the van, police found over three hundred cases of beer loaded in the vehicle. The driver confessed the large amount of beer was intended for a wedding and not for personal use and was not purchased in Ontario.
The beer was seized, and the van was towed from the highway and the owner was charged with unlawfully possessing liquor, unlawfully purchasing liquor, and operating an unsafe vehicle.
