The Quinte Economic Development Commission held is reporting major success with the Skills Development Fund.
The Skills Development Fund, using funds provided by the provincial government, provides skills training to both people looking to enter the workforce and to workers who are looking to upgrade their skills.
During their Thursday board of directors meeting, commission CEO Chris King said that they’ve helped almost 400 employees across 42 companies with new training, beating their target of 300.
“Existing workforce training in particular has been well received,” said King. “So a lot of companies are taking advantage of that. Companies have workforces and they need to upgrade their skills to take advantage of new automation, new technology, new equipment, or whatever their training needs are and we’re able to support them in doing that.”
The commission will be applying for continued funding next year to support the program at its current level.
