West Zwick’s Park came alive on Saturday evening with bright lights, music and dancing during the third annual Belleville Diwali Festival.
The threat of rain couldn’t keep thousands of area residents from packing the park full, taking in the many food vendors, dancing exhibitions, and a fireworks display.
One of the organizers, Hardik Patel, said he was very happy with how many people came to the festival.
“Fireworks also amazing everywhere, everything went well actually. I was fortunately very happy from the stage because I was on the stage all the time and I was looking at the crowd,” said Patel. “It was started with 1, 2, 3, and then after, 1000s of people surrounding.”
A major event in India, Diwali is a celebration of light prevailing over darkness and lasts for several days.
Belleville Diwali is organized by Discover Belleville and a volunteer committee, many of whom are of Indian descent.
