The Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward Public Health gave an update on the upcoming respiratory season in the region.
Dr. Ethan Toumishey says so far there are moderate levels of COVID-19 and low levels of influenza in the region.
When it comes to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Dr. Toumishey says the region is at low to moderate levels as we approach the respiratory season.
Deliveries of vaccines that target the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant of COVID-19 have also begun being distributed to high risk locations. The vaccine will eventually be available to the general public in late October and be available in pharmacies.
The health unit is still awaiting guidance on how to implement the publicly-funded component of the RSV vaccine rollout.
Many of the same guidelines remain in place – wash your hands, consider wearing a mask in indoor settings, screen for symptoms and stay home if you are sick.
