The big boys are back in town.
The Belleville Senators have opened their 7th American Hockey League training camp at the CAA Arena with 22 players including 11 forwards, eight defencemen and three goaltenders.
More will arrive as the parent Ottawa Senators reduce their training camp roster
Five were reassigned on Monday including forward Cole Reihnardt and goaltender Kevin Mandolese, both back for their fourth season in Belleville.
Defenceman Tyler Kleven will begin his first professional season with the B-Sens but is expected to be a key cog on Ottawa’s blue line in the future.
There are six returning players on the current training camp roster including goaltender Leevi Merilainen, captain Dillon Hetherington, Angus Crookshank and Philippe Daoust.
Meanwhile the Ottawa Senators have placed defencemen Jacob Bernard-Docker and Jacob Larsson and forwards Egor Sokolov and Matthew Highmore on waivers for the purposes of assigning them to Belleville. Other teams have until this afternoon to put in a claim. Last weekend Ottawa lost defenceman Lassi Thomson after the Anaheim Ducks claimed him on waivers.
