A financial shot in the arm could be on the way for some of the Quinte region’s established not-for-profit organizations.
The non-profit, Trenval, has announced that non-repayable grants of up to $10,000 will be available to qualifying applicants who need funding to get a project off the ground or enhance existing activities.
A program, known as CEED, Community Empowerment for Economic Development, will be funded by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
Trenval’s Executive Director, Amber Darling, tells Quinte News the initiative will continue well into next year with additional investment expected for future community projects that enhance the growth and well-being of the community.
Darling points to Trenton Memorial Foundation as an organization that received a grant in the past.
“They were getting some special packages together for the physician recruitment. That would be another one. It’s not for tourism or anything like that because there are some dollars out there for tourism.
“You can look through the local initiatives on our website and that will give you an idea.”
“Such as the Lions Community Playground. They were doing the inclusive playground in the Quinte West so we contributed dollars to that in 2022.”
“The Quinte Museum of Natural History … let’s say if they needed a new counter to welcome their new guests in … they needed to know where people were from, that could be digitally enhanced. That would be a guideline or something that they could apply for.”
She added, ‘Things like that that promote the economic development, the social well-being.”
“If there’s a business and they’re trying to do something with homelessness but they need some research done or something like that and there’s consultant fees associated with that, then we can take a look at that application.”
“This year we have $75,000 between now and the end of March … that’ll be the intake that ends November 30 is the deadline. Our next fiscal starts April 1 when we’re anticipating up to $100,000 for the community for this particular project.”
“Trenval’s mission is to stimulate economic growth and community well-being,” said Board Chair Joanna March. “I am confident this CEED initiative will help create a brighter future for the Bay of Quinte region.”
Applications for CEED are now available with a deadline of November 30, 2023. Trenval plans to announce the first group of successful projects in December.
