The Amazing Race – the Gift from the Heart version – comes to Quinte West Friday.
This is the second annual fundraiser for the charity that provides essential and urgent oral health care to those unable to afford it.
Gift from the Heart’s President Bev Woods says the event is sold out.
Twenty-five teams of four will compete for the $5,000 grand prize, donated by Dibbits Landscape Supply.
“The teams will leave Dibbits Landscape Supply at 1 p.m. They’ll be given eight clues to find the eight pit stops. When they arrive at a pit stop, there’ll be challenges there for them to participate in. And the goal is to complete the challenge in the quickest amount of time.”
The second place team wins $3,000 and $2,000 will go to the third place team.
The day also includes a BBQ, raffle and finishes with a fireworks display.
“We’ve already provided over $40,000 worth of treatment to the residents of the Bay of Quinte. We provide emergency care. So we provide extractions and fillings and always preventative care is available to those, you know, without dental insurance or finding it difficult to afford preventative care.”
“We could probably hire a dental hygienist once or twice a week on a regular basis and then possibly a dentist, again, you know, four or five hours a week. So that would really help the public out a lot.”
