The Wellington Dukes slipped past the Toronto Patriots 6-5 in double overtime on Friday night.
Zander Latreille, Liam Lucas, Cory Jewitt, and Nick DiPaolo scored for the Dukes, with DiPaolo scoring a hat trick.
The Patriots started explosively with the first goal in under five minutes of play, and two more unanswered goals in the first frame to gain an early lead. The Dukes struck back hard in the second period, taking two goals, while the Patriots also took two more to maintain their lead. During the final five minutes of the third period, the Dukes rallied for a comeback, and scored three goals to tie the game and take the Patriots to overtime.
While neither team could get the edge in overtime, Nick DiPaolo scored his third goal of the night just 17 seconds into double overtime, bringing home the win for the Dukes.
The Dukes face the Lindsay Muskies on Sunday.
