Belleville city council has recognized a long-serving volunteer in the community.
At Monday’s meeting, Mayor Neil Ellis presented a commendation to Joy Martin, a recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, awarded to volunteers with a passion, dedication and commitment to their community.
For over 20 years Joy Martin has served locally, in Canada and abroad, as a volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross.
“I have been both on the giving and the receiving end of some services in our community and each experience has provided me the opportunity to be grateful, to be inspired and to be hopeful. It does take a whole village and we are one on this giving and receiving of kindness.”
Martin is now serving as a member on the Belleville Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.
