The total cost to fix the Trenton water main is expected to be approximately $1.2 million, including the temporary fix currently in place and the permanent repair.
In July, a significant break was found in the Trenton water main that runs adjacent to the D.J. MacDonald Bridge and under the Trent River.
Some customers experienced water flow disruptions and boil water advisories as work began on a temporary fix.
Later that month, Cobourg Development Services completed the installation of a temporary water pipe that remains in use until a permanent repair begins.
According to a report to council, the city’s Director of Finance Caleb DenOuden stated that the cost of the temporary repair was $451,500 and that the cost of the permanent repair would be around $755,000 for a total approximate value of $1.2 million.
All but $100,000 of the cost will be paid from the city’s $3.3 million water reserve fund.
The city is aiming for the permanent repair work to be completed before the end of October.
