Prince Edward County residents are invited to participate in the third annual Monarch Point Clean Up happening this Saturday, September 9.
Monarch Point is made up of the former Point Petre Provincial Wildlife Area and Ostrander Point Crown Land Blocks.
The almost 4,000 acres of land were designated as the Monarch Point Conservation Reserve by the provincial government earlier this year making it Ontario’s first new conservation reserve in more than 10 years.
Cleanups in the area over the past two years demonstrate the need for this annual event – in 2022 more than 900 pounds of trash was picked up.
Residents of all ages are invited and can pick up garbage bags at one of two depots:
Corner of County Road 24 (Point Petre Road) and Army Reserve Road
Corner of Helmer Road and Babylon Road. The County will have a large bin at this location to receive the trash.
The South Marysburgh Recreation Committee has joined the South Shore Joint Initiative (SSJI) as sponsors of the event with the municipality providing support.
The cleanup begins at 9 a.m.
For more information, and to RSVP for the cleanup, visit the SSJI website.
Prince Edward County encourages residents to host their own community cleanup. County staff can support your community cleanup by advertising your event, providing supplies, and assisting with disposal of the collected waste. Visit the County website to learn more.
