A Quinte West Firefighter was injured in an early morning blaze in the Bayside-area. Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says crews responded to a cottage at 1148B Old Highway-2…just after 4am. The first firefighter on scene broke through the floor and a backflash pushed two of the firefighters over. It’s believef the injured volunteer firefighter has a broke ankle. The fire was brought under control just after 5am…..there’s about 50-thousand dollars damage. Chief Whalen says its the first injury to a firefighter in quite some time. The injured volunteer was taken to hospital by paramedics for treament. No word yet on a cause of the fire…but, Hyro officials have been called in to investigate.
