Peterborough OPP say a grenade was located at a home in Selwyn Township and was safely disposed of by members of the military.
Police received a call just before 8 p.m. on Thursday advising that a while cleaning out the home of their deceased father, the complainant spotted what appeared to be a live grenade in a locked firearms safe.
OPP officers were dispatched to the area and were ensured that no one had made contact with the grenade.
The OPP Explosive Disposal Unit were contacted which led to consultation with the Department of National Defence.
A Bomb Tech from CFB Borden attended the scene and safely removed the grenade and took it for disposal.
OPP are reminding residents that if ever they are in a situation where weapons or explosives are located, they should immediately call OPP and move to a safe location.
