The 15th annual Blair Smith Memorial Fishing with Kids event returns this Saturday with free fishing for youth up to 13 years of age.
In memory of the event’s namesake, participants can enjoy a day of fishing with assistance and instruction from local anglers, prize draws and a goodie bag for the first 150 kids, face painting, ice cream, and a free BBQ.
Participants must bring their own fishing rod and tackle, and life jackets. Worms will be available.
Since 2008, the annual fishing event has instilled the love of fishing in local youth – something Blair was passionate about, says Organizer Tammy Smith of her late husband.
“Blair was an avid fisherman and advocate for the sport. He specialized in bass fishing and spent many hours travelling to tournaments and enjoying the sport with his children.
“It’s something special to see Blair’s legacy bring the community together for 15 years. I’m thankful for the support from local businesses and organizations, and those who have attended.”
The event will be held on Saturday, August 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at RiverFront Square in Trenton behind the TD Bank.
