Belleville council has approved a contract with a consulting firm to do a final report on the condition of
part of the former fairgrounds property in order to speed up proposed development at the site.
The city will pay Cambium Inc. $185,490 for a Record of Site Condition report for the part of the property holding the curling club and race track.
It’s proposed that that location be the site for a new YMCA Centre for Life community facility.
The rest of the property to the east will continue to go through an environmental assessment process, as part of it is contaminated by toxic leachate from the former Nortel property.
City council had already set aside $4 million in this year’s budget for design and partial construction on the fairgrounds site.
