Sandbanks Provincial Park is anticipating a “fully booked or near full” month for camping in August.
Six of the last seven days saw capacity reached at the provincial park.
The start of this week however shows the demand has slowed down a bit.
As of the latest update made on July 30, the park on Monday July 31 was 68% full, Tuesday August 1 was 61% full and Wednesday August 2 was 54% full.
Quinte News reached out to Ontario Parks to determine what is deemed to be “at capacity” at Sandbanks.
The responses are based off information provided to Ontario Parks by Assistant Park Superintendent for Sandbanks, Carlin Thompson.
“The number of permits available can fluctuate and is monitored closely by the Sandbanks Provincial Park staff,” Ontario Parks tells Quinte News in a statement.
“Park capacities are based on a number of factors such as parking spaces available, infrastructure, and area capacity. We continuously monitor park capacity and may make changes from time to time to ensure park capacity is effectively used.”
Ontario Parks says the best way to guarantee access to the park is to purchase a daily vehicle permit online in advance.
“Visitors are welcome to check in at the park’s West Gate, across the road from the Dunes Day Use area, or the East Gate, formerly known as the Main Gate. Typically West Gate is less congested, resulting in shorter lines,” Ontario Parks says in a statement.
