Quinte West fire and OPP responded to a two alarm fire at the All Seasons Fencing factory in Quinte West at about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Part of the factory that was undergoing renovations had caught fire, prompting the evacuation of 25 workers.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen.
“The fact that some of the old machinery had been taken out of floors, so there was like 15-20 foot drops. Very dark and dingy in this warehouse. Flames shooting through old ventilation systems.”
He says the open holes in flooring makes for a dangerous scene.
“When a working fire comes in, we automatically double up two stations, the second alarm right away. Then because of the intensity of it and the heat, not just the fire, but with the temperatures outside, we needed to rotate our crews so we had tankers from our other four stations attend.”
Nobody was injured during the incident, though the fire caused an estimated $80,000 to $1 in damage.
