The Municipality of Tweed is getting ready to launch a battle against the Emerald Ash Borer.
The town got hit badly by the Emerald Ash Borer this year according to a report by Manager of Community Development Rachelle Hardesty.
Hardesty tells Quinte News, “So there’s approximately 55 trees just in the park that should be removed. And, of course, we replant.”
She says, “Emerald Ash is such a hardy tree, like when it comes to drought and flooding and everything else and it’s planted forever throughout our municipality.
Hardesty outlines plans for the future saying:
“And once the bug affects one it goes to the other, so we have to remove that and then we are going to be replanting with a variety of different species in the park that can handle our flooding and drought conditions.”
Hardesty adds, “Within a year you can go from a tree living that’s starting to lose, to losing, and that’s totally dead. So our trees are the major issue in our park this year.”
